Kelly Reilly: Gleeson is like another dad (BELFAST TELEGRAPH)

Kelly Reilly has revealed that Brendan Gleeson has become like a part of her family.

After playing the Irish star's screen daughter in the upcoming drama Calvary, the Flight actress joked that she now sees him as another father.

"He's like my new dad. I've got two dads now," she quipped.

"What a beautiful bear of a man. I adore him," she added.

Kelly, who has starred in Guy Ritchie's Sherlock Holmes films, said she is "really excited" about the release of John Michael McDonagh's movie, which also stars Chris O'Dowd and Aiden Gillen and was shot in Ireland.

As 2013 opens, Benedict Cumberbatch must be reminiscing about the last three years with a considerable amount of personal satisfaction. From 2010 onwards, his career has seen a meteoric rise from his small-time television drama roles to the plum offerings as the villain in the newest movie franchises: Smaug (and the Necromancer) in The Hobbit and Khan in Star Trek. Yet both his fans (including myself) and his detractors must be pondering on the same question: how did he come so far so quickly?

I believe the answer lies in one word: Sherlock. Benedict had had leading parts in television miniseries before 2010; he was the dramatic lead in both ‘To the Ends of the Earth’ (2005) and ‘The Last Enemy’ (2008). But, in spite of the critical acclaim he received for such roles his career might well have drifted into television obscurity and occasional theatrical success if it were not for his hugely popular depiction of the eponymous hero of Sherlock.

Martin Freeman has already told us he's still pretty much in the dark when it comes to Sherlock series three, but he knows as well as anyone that the detective's return from the dead is unlikely to provoke quite the same reaction from his character John as it did from the literary Dr Watson in Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's original story.

"I think [Sherlock co-creator] Mark [Gatiss] felt probably that fainting is not very 2013," said Freeman, speaking to Radio Times at our annual covers party. "I don't know what [John's reaction] is gonna be, but hopefully something very violent."

Jude Law has confessed he plays an author in Wes Anderson's new comedy drama and says the plot is based on layers of ''storytelling'' in different time frames.

Jude Law has revealed he will play an author in 'The Grand Budapest Hotel'.

The 'Anna Karenina' actor dropped hints about his new role in Wes Anderson's comedy drama - which has thus far simply been billed as a ''European story'' - and admitted the film will be constructed around several layers of ''storytelling'' involving his character.

He told Collider: ''I play an author. And there are sort of several sections. It's about storytelling. There's someone who plays me at an older age, and they're recounting how they were first told a certain story, and then you cut to me being told that story, and then you cut to the story. It's sort of layers of storytelling.''

Ralph Fiennes has already been confirmed to play M. Gustave, the hotel's ''perfectly composed'' concierge, while Bill Murray is thought to be attached.

Sherlock star Benedict Cumberbatch is taking a leading role in this year’s Cambridge Science Festival.

The actor has agreed to be the festival’s guest director, which means he has been helping to put together the programme for the two-week event, which starts on March 11.

Mr Cumberbatch said: “I’m delighted to be the guest director of the 2013 Cambridge Science Festival.

“My link to a science festival may seem a little tenuous but, as an actor who has played Stephen Hawking, Heisenberg and Frankenstein, I’ve long had a passion for all fields of science.

"To a layperson like me the intellectual and ethical complexities and technical details can though seem daunting and distancing. Hence a festival of this range and accessibility is a hugely important bridge between the public and science.

One of the "Side Effects" of being a celebrity as hot as Jude Law? You tend to go through homes pretty quickly. At the tail end of 2010, he and then-on-again (now-off-again) girlfriend Sienna Miller settled in London's star-studded Highgate neighborhood. Then, last March, he was reportedly apartment hunting for a $10,000-and-up rental in New York City. Now, he's putting his sweet Georgian townhouse in London's posh Maida Vale neighborhood up for sale for $6.8 million, The Real Estalker reported. (That's converted from the 4.35 million pounds that it's listed for in British currency.)

We're wondering why he's cutting the townhouse loose now after all the trouble that he went through to make it his own. He rented the place for four years before finally buying it from his landlord for 3.5 million pounds, according to The Evening Standard in London. Then, he had to get his plans for extensive renovation to the place approved by neighbors, which he did last September. And now -- poof! -- he just tosses it away (albeit at a hefty price)?

Benedict Cumberbatch to test Sherlock skills as guest director of the Cambridge Science Festival (RADIO TIMES)

Benedict Cumberbatch has been named guest director of this year’s Cambridge Science Festival, and the Sherlock star says he’s particularly keen to attend two events that would be of interest to his detective alter ego.

“As someone who has portrayed Sherlock Holmes, I’m of course looking forward to [a talk] about why the violin is so hard to play," said Cumberbatch, who mimes to a professional musician when his character plays the instrument on the show.

"[And I'll be] testing my real-life deduction skills in the mock crime scene,” he added.

The actor also revealed how other roles had helped fuel his interest in science: “My link to a science festival may seem a little tenuous at first glance,” admitted Cumberbatch, “and yet as an actor who has researched playing Stephen Hawking, Joseph Hooker, Heisenburg and both Frankenstein and his creation I’ve long had a passion for all fields of science.”

Following Sherlock's (Jonny Lee Miller) run-in with Sebastian Moran (Vinnie Jones), Joan (Lucy Liu) decided to ask Sherlock's father for an extension on their contract. But when he denied her request, she lied to Sherlock in order to stay during his time of need.

"It's not a lie that Joan is going to live with for a particularly long time," executive producer Rob Doherty tells TVGuide.com. "It's something that we expect to get around to in the next three or four episodes."

Naturally, once Sherlock finds out the truth, it will initially cause a divide between him and Watson. "The expectation would be that Sherlock would feel betrayed and upset and embarrassed," Doherty says. "He was so resistant to the idea of Joan in the very beginning. He did not think he needed help. He's learned over time that it's a good thing to have her around."

Jonny Lee Miller has the unenviable position of being the third man to play Sherlock Holmes in recent memory; Benedict Cumberbatch and Robert Downey Jr. being the other two. Miller is both humbled and thrilled by the success and support he gets for his role on Elementary.

In a new interview with Collider, Jonny Lee Miller talks about how the success of the show is beyond his wildest dreams. The first sign that things were going well was when CBS ordered up a full season almost right away. Secondly, CBS just bought a Superbowl commercial slot to tout the show. With these slots starting in the 2 million dollar range for a mere 15 seconds, this is quite the vote of confidence. Miller, being from the U.K. and not being fully up on American football, didn’t realize initially what an unusual occurrence this was.

Despite the ongoing marketing campaign, Miller tries to stay focused on his role and not get too distracted by outside forces. In fact, he doesn’t even want to know too much in advance what the writers are planning. His intent is to truly go on a journey of discovery with the Sherlock. He found that he was able to get into his character surprisingly quickly.

You’re trying to bring a character to an audience, and tell stories. That’s what we’re all trying do. So, any time that you get to color that with history and emotion and those darker sides, which are a part of all of us, that’s really the bread and butter of what we do. So, any chance that any of us get to do that is really great. One thing I love about this character is that he’s quite raw, and his struggles are on the surface. Hopefully, that makes it more enjoyable for people, and they can identify with that.

Sherlock series 3: what do we know so far – and what can we deduce? A year after The Reichenbach Fall, Paul Jones assesses what the clues might tell us about the what, when and who of the upcoming new episodes...(RADIO TIMES)

Filming and air date

Sherlock made superstars of Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman, the result being that their other movie and TV commitments – most notably Cumberbatch's part as the villain in Star Trek sequel Into Darkness and Freeman's starring role in The Hobbit trilogy – have pushed back filming on series three.

Originally planned to begin this month, shooting has since been postponed until March. The good news? Co-creator Steven Moffat and his producer wife Sue Vertue say that will not impact the intended transmission date of autumn 2013.


The episodes

In August, Steven Moffat and Mark Gatiss revealed three key words, one relating to each episode of the new series. They've also dropped other clues, and even a few facts. Here's what we know so far, plus a great deal of educated speculation...

Episode 1 – The Empty House/”Rat”

This is the episode we know the most about. Written by Mark Gatiss, it will answer the question every Sherlock fan is asking – “How did he survive the fall?” The solution was filmed at the same time as the setup and the detective’s death-defying plunge, and Martin Freeman tells us "All the clues were on screen. It's not going to be a cheat – everything that we saw on that final episode offers hints as to how he did it."

But how will Sherlock reveal himself to his friend, and how will John react? We already know from Gatiss (and common sense) that the episode will be based in part on The Adventure of the Empty House, the story in which Sir Arthur Conan Doyle resurrected Holmes. In the original, the detective bumps into Dr Watson while disguised as a stooped, elderly book seller and only reveals himself once he’s finagled his way safely inside 221B Baker Street. We’ve already seen Benedict Cumberbatch's Sherlock do a bit of character acting (in The Blind Banker and A Scandal in Belgravia) so a disguise-and-reveal is a possibility. We also know Sherlock enjoys a bit of drama, which he can then puncture by acting aloof. And it’s such an iconic moment it would be a shame if Gatiss didn’t recreate it in some way.

Script In Production For Sherlock Holmes 3 - Sherlock fans, rejoice! (E.)

Sherlock fans can call off the search for clues... it looks like 'Sherlock 3' is most definitely on its way!

A third film has been rumoured since the release of popular 'Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows' but has not yet been officially confirmed. However, we're pretty sure we can hedge our bets on the movie coming out sooner rather than later.

Film producer David Lin let the cat out of the bag by admitting that a script is definitely in development:

"Drew Pearce (Iron Man 3) is working on the script," he confirmed to Collider. This is great news - up until this we had no confirmation that things were moving forward.

"It's a high priority for the studio and for all the filmmakers involved.

'Elementary': SPOILER ALERT finally shows up ... kind of by Denise Warner (EW.COM)

It finally happened. Twelve episodes into CBS’ modern day Sherlock Holmes series Elementary, Moriarty appears. Well, almost.

Elementary doesn’t follow the literary character’s trajectory as closely as another updated version, the BBC’s Sherlock. But it would be hard to imagine a Holmes who doesn’t face Moriarty — his greatest foe from Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s novels. Many recent adaptions of Sherlock Holmes — including the aforementioned BBC show, and the Robert Downey Jr. movies — use Moriarty as the big bad. So it felt like only a matter of time before Elementary went down that path.

In the latest hour, titled “M,” Sherlock (Jonny Lee Miller) hunts down a serial killer named M, who murdered Sherlock’s beloved Irene Adler during a London killing spree. The detective/consultant was heavily involved in M’s pursuit when he worked with Scotland Yard, and now M, like Sherlock, has made his way across the pond.

Dame Judi Dench - Judi Dench Favourite For New Sherlock Holmes Show (CONTACT MUSIC)

Dame Judi Dench is in line to play Sherlock Holmes' housekeeper in a new Tv adaptation of Arthur Conan Doyle's classic stories.

The Oscar winner is in talks to portray the super snoop's loyal employee Mrs. Hudson in a new show based on her journals, called A View From The Landing At 221B Baker Street.

The script has been penned by British comedy writer Barry Cryer and his son, Bob, and the pair is adamant the Bond actress is the perfect person for the job.
