Michael Fassbender and Jake Gyllenhaal in the running to play Lance Armstrong (entertainment.ie)

Last Saturday we reported the news that there would be a Lance Armstrong biopic coming our way, with Lost creator JJ Abrams at the helm. We then asked you which actor you thought would best portray the cyclist's fall from grace. With tongues already wagging in Hollywood, there's since been a bunch of names thrown into the mix and we couldn't agree more with the following two suggestions; Bradley Cooper and Michael Fassbender. Both have the chops to pull it off, both have the looks and athletic physique too. It's the folk at Ladbrokes who bring us this news, announcing a 3/1 odds for each actor.

When asked by the BBC about the possibility of bringing Armstrong's story to the big screen, Cooper (whose currently enjoying the lead up to the Oscars on the back of his performance in Silver Linings Playbook) expressed his interest by saying: "I think he's fascinating. What a fascinating character. I remember Matt Damon was going to do his autobiography at one point years ago. I remember thinking, that would be a great character, I'd love to play that character. I would love to do something, I think he's pretty fascinating."

The Prometheus star, 35, will wear the disguise in Frank, inspired by the life of Frank Sidebottom – the alter-ego of Cheshire performer Chris Sievey who died from cancer in June 2010, aged 54.

Fassbender won an army of female fans with his naked scenes in sex addict flick Shame.

Tarantino: Idris Elba Not in ‘Django’ Because He’s a Brit January 6, 2013 | Posted by ABS Staff (ATLANTA BLACK STAR)

I know, we said no more Django Unchained posts. However, this isn’t so much a Django Unchained item (no critique nor praise of the film here), as much as it is a nod to several conversations and debates that you folks have had in various comment sections of this blog, relating to the casting of black British actors in roles as African-Americans (and vice-versa, or as Africans) whether on TV or film, as well as the, shall we say, “accent problem.”

So I thought it was worth sharing and elaborating on, as well as connecting it to previous conversations, regardless of where you stand on the matter.

In an interview with the U.K.’s Sun newspaper, while plugging the film across the pond, where it opens on the 18th of this month,Quentin Tarantino stated, while, Idris Elba was one of the actors he looked at for the lead role eventually played by Jamie Foxx, “he never stood a chance of getting the part,” because “he’s British.”

Tarantino said. “Yeah, Idris is British and this is an American story. I think a problem with a lot of movies that deal with this issue is they cast British actors to play the Southerners and it goes a long way to distancing the movie. They put on their gargoyle masks and they do their phoney accents and you are not telling an American story any more. They are just making hay of it, whether it be James Mason in Mandingo or Michael Caine in Hurry Sundown, they get British actors to do this.”

The first thing that I thought was, if he never really stood a chance of getting the part, why even look at him for the part in the first place…?

Although, I’ll say that while Idris did an excellent job portraying Stringer Bell in HBO’s The Wire, pulling off the accent rather well – so much that most audiences, and even many of his fellow Brits didn’t even know he was British – you might recall he did have some difficulty with his southern accent in Ridley Scott’s Prometheus last summer.

Maggie Gyllenhaal Joins Michael Fassbender In Music Comedy Frank published: 2012-12-30 19:19:47 Author: Sean O'Connell (CINEMA BLEND)

Neither Maggie Gyllenhaal nor Michael Fassbender are names that come to mind when casting for a comedy. So we’re already curious about the smaller-budgeted Frank before a sing;e frame of footage is shot.

The Film Stage posts the news – confirmed by the Albuquerque Business Journal – that Gyllenhaal has joined the still-developing ensemble for the musical comedy, which also stars Domhnall Gleeson (currently burning up the screen in Joe Wright’s Anna Karenina) and Scoot McNairy (currently burning up the screen in both Ben Affleck’s Argo and Andrew Dominik’s Killing Them Softly).

MICHAEL FASSBENDER REPORTEDLY SINGLE AGAIN (FAN SHARE)

For the past couple of months, it had been rumored that Michael Fassbender was quietly dating his ‘Shame’ co-star Nicole Beharie.  However, a new report surfaced from the Herald.ie that Fassbender was ‘single’ and mingling with a large group of friends in the VIP area at the Lillie’s Bordello in Ireland.

This could mean one of two things: either Fassbender is actually single again, or he is just ‘acting’ single.  Based on all the present facts, it really does seem like he’s single, especially as he hasn’t been seen with Beharie in a while now.  There have been no reports of the duo cosying up anywhere, and Fassbender is always a hot paparazzi target when he’s with a woman.

Oh, and if you’re in or around the Austin, Texas area right now, Fassbender is currently shooting a film down there with Ryan Gosling (!!!).

We’ve collected the best of the best Michael Fassbender pics for your enjoyment, including a couple of him reclining in bed that should pretty much make your brain melt. You’re welcome.
