Last year saw the rise of many new faces in the entertainment world: Carly Rae Jepsen, Psy, uh, Honey Boo Boo.

What will 2013 bring us? It’s anyone’s guess.

Still, with a number of high-profile movie, TV and album releases upon us, we can at least speculate as to which stars will break out in Hollywood over the next 12 months.

Already, all eyes are on Henry Cavill — and not just because he’s arguably the best-looking man since, well, ever. The sexy Brit will don Superman’s famous red cape in the much-anticipated Man of Steel, out June 14.

Skyfall becomes the first billion dollar Bond film (YAHOO MOVIES)

Skyfall has become the first Bond film to make $1 billion at the box office.

Bond 23, which was released in October in the UK and November in the US, breached the record-breaking barrier over the Christmas holidays.

So far, the film – directed by Sam Mendes and the third film to star Daniel Craig as 007 –  has made $289,600,000 (£179,274,563) in the US, and then a sturdy $710,600,000 (£439,891,245) around the world – a total of $1,000,200,000.

It's the first Bond film ever to amass the sum, though it should add another substantial figure to that once it opens in China in the New Year.

Gerard Butler New Year's Eve Plans to go Pagan Posted by Adam Monday December 31, 2012 (SHOWBIZ SPY)

GERARD Butler has revealed his plans for New Year’s Eve — he’s going to a pagan festival!

The actor  returns to his native Paisley, Scotland, most years to be with his family, and will be taking part in the traditional celebrations to cast out evil spirits as she sees 2013 in.

“I love New Year’s Eve,” he said. “I often end up in my local village in Scotland where my parents now live, and they have this pagan festival where everybody lights these wooden torches and marches around the village to cast out evil spirits. It’s amazing, it’s one of the coolest things.”

Gerard, 43, had some ups and downs in 2012, with him completing three weeks in the Betty Ford Center in February to be treated for a reliance on prescription drugs, although he says he is “glad” he went.

‘Downton Abbey’ finally make Hugh Bonneville a star MONDAY DECEMBER 31, 2012, 11:17 AM BY LUAINE LEE MCCLATCHY-TRIBUNE NEWS SERVICE (NORTH JERSEY)

From left, Elizabeth McGovern as Lady Cora, Hugh Bonneville as Lord Grantham, Maggie Smith as the Dowager Countess and Michelle Dockery as Lady Mary are shown in a scene from the second season of 'Downton Abbey.'

BEVERLY HILLS, Calif. — You could never tell by looking at this dapper Englishman who plays the stalwart Earl of Grantham on “Downton Abbey,” but when he was 7 years old Hugh Bonneville hurled a sledgehammer through the family’s kitchen window.

It was not indicative of things to come, Bonneville insists. “I’m not prone to temper tantrums. I used to be a bad sulker. We’re not a shouty family, and nowadays I can forgive but I don’t forget,” he says. “I’m a Scorpio. If you have a go at a Scorpio they can get you back sometime,” he laughs, easing into a wing-chair in a hotel meeting room here.

The occasion of the sledgehammer was prompted by his older sister’s teasing. “She was annoying me. So I chased her through the garden, and she went back inside, shut the kitchen door and went, ‘Nah, nah’ through the kitchen window. And I saw a sledgehammer and popped it through the window. Cut to my dad chasing me round the garden and I got a big smacked bottom. That changed my life. That was a big lesson.”

Bonneville has been acting for 26 years, but it took the mysterious alchemy of an absorbing script, astute producers and a dream cast of “Downton Abbey” to elevate him to star status. That doesn’t really matter because, like every actor, Bonneville says he still worries where the next job is coming from.

“‘Downton Abbey’ is a hugely popular show and I love it, but it will end at some point and then I need to find work. We’re all waiting for hire,” he says.
