'50 Shades of Grey' Front-Runners Emerge to Play Christian & We Can’t Stop Drooling Posted by Mary Fischer on January 31, 2013 at 11:27 AM (THE STIR)
OMG. How much longer are we going to have to wait before a casting announcement is made for the Fifty Shades of Grey movie? Speculation about who will land the roles of Anastasia Steele and Christian Grey have been going on, well -- pretty much since the news broke that the book was going to be made into a film.
And enough is enough already. We're sick and tired of the name dropping. We're over the "will he or won't he" stuff. We want names, damnit. And we want 'em soon.
Fortunately, we may be one step closer to hearing some news, because two front-runners for Christian's role seem to have emerged.
Drum roll, please.
As of now, reports indicate that it's highly likely that either Ian Somerhalder or Henry Cavill will wind up playing Christian Grey.
Yeah, yeah, I know that neither one of them really comes as a huge surprise, because they've both been mentioned as possible Christians quite a few times in the past. But still -- it's kind of exciting to think that the field is narrowing a bit, right?

Fifty Shades of Grey Casting: Are Ian Somerhalder and Henry Cavill in the Lead to Play Christian? 1 about 19 hours ago by Ryan Gajewski
(Not even close - if you ask me!)
There are reportedly two lead candidates for the part of Christian Grey, and their names will make fans of The Vampire Diaries and Superman very happy.
Ian Somerhalder and Henry Cavill are currently being cited as the two most popular choices to play the male lead in the film version of Fifty Shades of Grey, according to IB Times.
Likewise, Celebrity Dirty Laundry refers to them as the "top contenders for the role." However, it is uncertain if this is indeed how producers are leaning.

Henry Cavill winning hearts and support for 'Fifty Shades of Grey' role (Photos) HENRY CAVILL FANPAGE!!! FIFTY SHADES OF GREY (EXAMINER)
The Henry Cavill Facebook Fanpage has over 23K followers and is growing daily. Although the site is not dedicated to the actor being cast as Christian Grey, the founders believe he would be a good choice. When asked about Henry being considered for the role they gave the following statement.
"Henry Cavill, above all other fan casted actors for this role, has the classic, timeless handsomeness to truly embody and manifest the enormity of impact that happens for women when in Christian's presence in E.L. James's "Fifty Shades of Grey". As Charles Brandon in Showtime's "The Tudors", Henry stole the screen as the Casanova Playboy. As Theseus in "Immortals (2011)" and as Will Shaw in "The Cold Light of Day (2012)" Henry proved he can play the tortured soul. Having seen Henry in person on three occasions, I can attest that the charisma Henry emanates is truly palpable. Everyone here at HCF believes that Henry would nail this role hands down if he is offered the opportunity and accepts it. Our fingers are crossed!"
Fans of the "Fifty Shades" trilogy are now picturing Cavill in the infamous playroom jeans, his popularity even surpassing Ian Somerhalder and Matt Bomer. Those who have long supported the above mentioned actors can see the appeal of Henry Cavill, especially after viewing online videos, his Dunhill Fragrance ad being the most popular. One "on the fence" fan tweeted about the ad, "trying to stay neutral who should play #Christian, many A+ actors, however this video screams Christian!"
Casting the "Fifty Shades" film is going to take time and as of yet there is not even a completed script or Director attached to the project. Fans are keeping up hope that Henry Cavill is being considered, especially amidst rumors of author E L James using him as inspiration for the character. There has also been some speculation that Producer Dana Brunetti's meeting with CAA last week was regarding Henry Cavill. The actor himself has spoke about the role saying, "whether that happens, that decision will be made at the time it has to be made, it would be a very different kind of thing than Man of Steel." He also sparked casting rumors when he showed up to the Critic's Choice Awards with newly highlighted copper locks, reminiscent of Christian Grey's description in the novel.

'Fifty Shades Of Grey' Fans Call For Breakout Star Henry Cavill To Be Given RoleStar is closing in in the betting, and it seems in fans' hearts (E!)
BY MARK WORGAN ON JANUARY 8, 2013
Momentum is building behind the casting of Henry Cavill as Christian in 'Fifty Shades of Grey', with fans of the movie using his topping of a star of 2013 poll to try to campaign for his casting as the sexually dominant billionaire.
The British star is already set to don spandex this year on screen as Superman in 'Man of Steel', and the actor has now been named by Fandango.com in a fan poll as their 'Breakout Star of 2013'.
Speculation has also been sparked by a Dunhill perfume ad in which Cavill certainly looks the part as a Christian like character, and by the man himself who when asked about playing the S&M plutocrat told Details magazine: "Whether that happens, that decision will be made at the time it has to be made. It would be a very different kind of thing than Man of Steel."
Fans are now promoting him as the guy to play Christian, and his odds are shortening having closed to 5/1 ahead of long term favourite Ian Somerhalder but behing Alex Pettyfer at 2/1 and Ryan Gosling at 4/1. Given that Gosling's beginning to take on directorial duties, Cavill may have an impressive shot at nabbing the part.
The star may have to battle it out with Aussie hunk Chris Hemsworth for the role though, as after raunching up his act in new movie 'Rush', rumours are rife that he could be a contender.
Fans of the actor and books seem to agree, with a number declaring their approval on Twitter, @Kaylarichoux wrote: "second time I'm read the fifty shades trilogy and I'm picturing Henry cavill as Christian. Life is perfect."
